Meet the Northern Dutch startups and scale-ups joining CES 2023

On Thursday, October 13, CES Unveiled Amsterdam will give attendees an exclusive sneak peek into the Dutch tech innovations that will debut at CES 2023 in Las Vegas. And we’re very proud to announce that six Northern Dutch companies will get their time in the spotlight on that day and will also be going to CES Las Vegas this January!

The Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas is the most influential tech event in the world and the proving ground for breakthrough technologies and global innovators. This is where the world's biggest brands do business and meet new partners, and the sharpest innovators hit the stage. For innovative startups and scale-ups, this is one of the biggest stages to show the world what they have to offer. So without further ado, let’s meet the six Northern Dutch companies joining CES!

Hydraloop

Let’s start with the CES veteran of the bunch: Hydraloop from Leeuwarden. Their products collect, clean and re-use water from showers, baths, washing machines, and condensation water from air conditioning units, heat pumps and wash dryers, saving up to 45% in water use. The company was the big winner during CES 2020, taking home no less than four awards, including "CES BEST of the BEST”. Leading magazines such as TIME Magazine and NEWSWEEK also selected Hydraloop in their top favorite product lists. They joined the CES line-up every year after that, and this will be their fourth time joining the trade show.

“We’re really excited to go back, especially now that we don’t have to worry about travel restrictions and other COVID measures”, says founder and CEO Sabine Stuiver. “I will be speaking at CES Unveiled in Amsterdam at the breakfast meeting and join an all-women panel that day, which I’m really looking forward to. But more importantly, we’ll also be unveiling our new product and have enrolled it for the Innovation Award. Going back again will be great because we can show how we’ve grown as a company and it’s a wonderful opportunity to expand to a whole new market with our latest product.”

Nuwa Innovation

Officially founded in October 2020, Nuwa Innovation embarked on a journey to improve the way users interact with their stylus. Their first range of products caters to a rapidly growing community of digital artists. PenTips 2 for example, which had a very successful Kickstarter campaign (reaching its $30,000 goal in 45 minutes and doubling it in 12 hours) is a premium screw-on tip for the Apple Pencil made with a superior silicone material for improved responsiveness, longevity, and true-to-life sensation.

For CES however, they’ll unveil a completely new product. “I can’t say too much about it yet, other than it’s our first hardware product and has to do with spatial computing”, says founder Marc Tuinier. “But we’re really excited about it and we’ll show the concept during CES Unveiled in Amsterdam. And in January, we’ll have the first working prototype that we’ll be able to show people in Las Vegas. When we signed up, we didn’t really expect to be selected, but here we are! We’re also competing for the Innovation Award, which is super exciting.”

VRelax

VRelax is making its CES debut in Las Vegas this January. Their VR platform won the prestigious Prix Galien for best Medtech Innovation last year. Their VR tool is specifically designed to help people manage stress levels, learn to relax, but also as a distraction tool for pain management, physical discomfort and medical procedures.

Initially a tool for healthcare professionals, VRelax is now expanding its focus. “We’ve been working hard on our product ecosystem and we’re taking the first steps to the consumer market”, Marketing Manager Sebastiaan Lommelaars explains. “We’re really excited to show our VR tool to an audience from all over the world. It really feels like we’re all grown up as a company. And talking to the other companies joining CES, you can already feel the energy. Hopefully, we’ll end up with some great new partnerships or opportunities for financing.”

ACS Buildings

Making buildings healthier, more sustainable and comfortable at the same time, through a unique combination of building management expertise and ICT. ACS developed a cloud-based building management system, which enables central control of all installations present within a building. ACS uses smart software based on big data and Artificial Intelligence and with the help of software, sensors and hardware, buildings become increasingly 'smart' and can save a considerable amount of energy.

“We attended CES virtually last year, so we’re very excited to be able to actually physically go to Las Vegas”, says Chantal Roukema, responsible for the marketing and communication of ACS. “We’re also competing for the CES Award, so for us, it feels like the ultimate validation of everything we’ve worked so hard for and we can’t wait to show our product on a global stage.”

Sencure

Sencure is developing a specialized chip to measure electrophysiological signals in the human body. The chip can measure signals in the brain (EEG), heart (ECG) and muscles (EMG) at the highest quality level and the lowest power consumption. This is the company’s second CES appearance and the chip itself is expected to be ready for mass production mid next year.

“CES is a great opportunity for us to show integration of our chip into sophisticated wearable medical and health monitoring applications”, says CEO Dick van Waes. “There are a lot of different consumer wearables on the market focusing on health, like smartwatches. CES is the platform to showcase the possible applications of our chip in wearable solutions to our potential customers and a great opportunity for us to show how easily our solution can be integrated in their future products.”

Arc

Founded in 2019, with a mission to reshape the way we interact with technology, Arc came up with a revolutionary design for phone cases. For CES however, they’re going to announce a completely new product, called Naya: a split modular keyboard for digital creators, such as video editors and VFX artists.

“We’re in the final process of patenting things, so I can’t reveal too many details just yet”, founder Niclas Bertelsen says. “But CES was really a perfect fit for our launch plan in March next year. So hopefully, we can find the right partners for things like distribution there and get some publicity for our new product. It’s an amazing opportunity for us and we’re very excited.”
